JOHN HANCOCK CENTER
875 North Michigan Avenue
Chicago, Illinois
Project Overview
JOHN HANCOCK CENTER is the world's tenth tallest building, standing at
a towering height of 1,127 feet, and is the largest mixed-use skyscraper
in the world. Located on North Michigan Avenue along Chicago's "Magnificent
Mile", JOHN HANCOCK CENTER offers both the professionalism necessary
for business and the tranquility required for home. Designed by renowned
architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the building is one of the most
recognizable in the world and has won numerous awards for its distinctive
style, including the Distinguished Architects 25 Year Award from the American
Institute of Architects in May of 1999. JOHN HANCOCK CENTER's distinctive exterior X-bracing has
made it an architectural icon and structurally eliminated the need for
inner support beams, greatly increasing the amount of useable floor
space. Remodeled in 1995, the interior features rich travertine and marble surfaces with textured limestone. The
elliptical-shaped plaza serves as a public oasis with seasonal plantings
and a 12-foot waterfall.
